Bernhard Brilling, a German rabbi, historian, and archivist, collected information for a broader academic study on the history of the Jewish community in Poznań. He contacted many academic institutions in Israel and around the world by letter, but was able to obtain little information. This article presents an analysis of preserved copies of letters that Brilling received from two Jewish women from Poznań who survived the Holocaust. Both were forcibly deported from Poznań in December 1939 and settled in the town of Ostrów Lubelski. Gertrud Brandt came from a Germanized family that preserved its Jewish identity. Bertrud Brandt, her husband, and her son died in the ghetto in Ostrów Lubelski. The fate of Klara Cobliner, the author of the other two letters, was completely different, as she, her husband, and her daughter survived the war. The four letters are a unique testimony to the tragic fate of the Jews of Poznań.
